Purpose & Goals
The APRA Foundation Berlin was established in 2009, in order to further and promote the multidisciplinary creative inquiry and education in the arts and sciences that has defined and enriched the course of Adrian Piper's own life and work; and to protect, preserve and offer public access to the Adrian Piper Research Archive, for the benefit of those students, scholars, curators, collectors, writers, and members of the general public who have a constructive curiosity or scholarly or professional interest in it. The Archive was envisioned as a document of Piper's activities in her chosen areas of specialization of art and philosophy, including Vedic philosophy; and as a case study of the wide-ranging impact and consequences of multidisciplinarity on individual development and survival. That vision proved impossible to realize in Berlin. However, its mission survives through the APRA Foundation Berlin's dedicated artwork WAHLKAMPAGNE: Eine Kunstaktion zur Bildungspolitik, and through the Adrian Piper Research Archive Foundation, a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization [#SC052211]. Established in 2022, the Scottish foundation continues to advance research and projects that exemplify, model, analyze, and/or theorize the creative multidisciplinary expressions of the self that are encouraged by globalization and cross-cultural journeying.
